Common Air Conditioner Issues to Look Out for This Summer, Pt. 1

In the hot Virginia summer, the last thing you want is for your AC to break down. That’s why our HVAC contractor near Williamsburg, VA is here around the clock to attend to any air conditioner emergency you may have. There are a few common problems most units face at one time or another that it’s important to stay on top of:

Leaking Refrigerant

Refrigerant is the chemical inside your air conditioner that is responsible for blowing cold air. If your air conditioner is on, but it is blowing warm air you may be low on refrigerant. If you notice puddles around your AC it is very possible that your refrigerant is leaking. If you notice either of these signs, it’s important to call in a professional right away.

Electric Control Failure

If you’ve had your AC installed for a while, your compressor or fan can wear down. Corrosion of your wires can also be a problem. If you notice strange noises coming from your air conditioner, or it turns on and off too frequently, you could be having issues with the electrical equipment in your unit.

Sensor Malfunction

There is a sensor in your AC that measures the temperature of the air passed into the evaporator coil – this is how the unit determines whether it needs to kick on or off. Problems with the sensor may cause your unit to turn on and off at random times. This usually means that the sensor has been knocked out of position.

These are just three of the problems you may have with your air conditioner this summer. Stay tuned for our next post, where we will discuss some of the other common problems you may encounter.
